iheartfaces: Texture Challenge

This is my very first iheartfaces photo entry! I took this with my Nikon D5000 using the auto setting - seems like cheating but I'm new to the DSLR world. I loved how the camera was able to capture the snow in mid air and how you can still see my daughter's crinckled up faces behind the snow sprinkles. I didn't see how truly great this photo was until I started thinking about textures in a photo. I'm in love with it now!

Week 2, 3, 4: Playing Catch Up

Where has the month gone? I have been saying everyday to myself that I need to "play catch up" and make a new post for "Week 2". January was at a standstill anway so I had plenty of time. Then "Week 2" became the end of"Week 3". Suddenly my pocketful of moxie seemed more like a pocketful of indifference. Where had all of my moxie gone? Maybe is was lost somewhere in the same abyss as my passport and Tiger Woods? Or could it be that I was already falling a victim to the broken new years resolution?? Gasp!

Well, I'm back and not letting my affair with laziness deter me from getting back in the game (Not so sure Tiger will have as much luck when he resurfaces. Ouch.). My goal is still the same, to write weekly and maybe add in some fun other things here and there when I can. My other goal is also in full swing as I'm all registered for my photography class which begins in 3 weeks. I have been taking pictures when I can but mostly shooting automatic. I have also been working alot more with editing the photos in Photoshop. I have learned some really amazing techniques recently. I would love to take some Photoshop courses this year also.

I was shooting for three goals for 2010 and the first two are covered. I wanted one more really good goal. You would think that since we are in the last week of January I would have come up with something perfect. Sadly, no. Maybe I am thinking too hard? I think my goal for this week should be to determine finally what that will be. Is it just me or has the word "goal" started to sound weird now? Kind of like when you say "milk" a number of times.

I do think that so far 2010 has been pretty sweet! After all of the hoopla of the prior 3 months January brought us some much needed "free" weekends. I admit to feeling blue for a bit after Christmas. It was the first Christmas that Gabby really got into and she adored every little bit and piece of it. Experiencing it with her was simply magical. The aftermath of it all seems too quiet and lacking all the glitter that Christmas brings. BUT, I know the lull is coming to an end as the next few weekends are booked with all kinds of fun events. Who knows, maybe I'll even find that passport!

Gabby-ism's of the past few weeks:
Tim (to Gabby): Negative.
Gabby: Is that Spanish for "no"?

Gabby: Mommy, at the end of all the days can we listen to my Christmas songs again?
Me: (confused face) What do you mean sweetie?
Gabby: At the end of all the days, I want to hear my Christmas songs again.
Me: (lightbulb!) OH, yes of course at the end of the year, in December, we can listen to Christmas music again!

Week 1: Resolution or no resoultion? That is the question.

I decided to go with... Resolution! It is the thing to do you know. But, this year I wanted to shake it up a bit and instead of the usual "go on a diet" or "be more organized", the ain't ever gonna happen stuff, I decided to think about the things I enjoy doing and go from there. How can you stick to something if it's not what you really want to do anyway?

I chose to set three goals for 2010. The first being this blog! I have always enjoyed writing and I certainly don't make time for that anymore. I've also been wanting to keep better journaling of all things Gabby! She is growing so fast and everyday she says something witty and fabulous and I should be writing it all down for her someplace. I've been a fool for not doing that.

My second goal is to learn something completely new! This will hopefully be something really fun and fulfilling too. I have been really wanting to go back to school but considering the time involved, and not to mention the money, I decided taking a class here and there was the ticket! I have enrolled in a Photography class that starts in February that I am thrilled about. My lovely hubby Tim got me a fantastic DSLR camera for my birthday two months ago so it is perfect timing.

Goal number 3 is yet to be determined... narrowing it down to only three things has been tough! I hope to have settled on something by my post for Week 2!

Gabbyism of Week 1:
Me: Gabby no more cherries, you've had enough.
Gabby: Please more cherries?
Me: No.
Gabby: Please??
Me: (frustrated) Do you know what N-O spells? It spells "NO".
Gabby: How do you spell "YES"?

Introduction: Pocketful of What?

Moxie. An unfamiliar word to me a few months ago. As I stumbled upon it my initial thought was "Ah, what a cute & funky word!", which was then followed by "Hmm, but what does it actually mean?". My curiosity led me to one of my favorite places, dictionary.com!

Moxie [mok - see] -noun Slang. 1. vigor; verve; pep. 2. courage and aggressiveness; nerve. 3. skill; know-how. 4. energy; spunk; spirit.

As it turned out "moxie" not only sounded great but it's definition was fantastic! The standout meanings for me were energy, spunk & spirit! And, in crafting this new blog I decided I needed to use "moxie" somehow. So welcome to my blog, Pocketful of Moxie! A place where you'll find me & weekly rambles about my life. And maybe some laughs too (I think I'm a little funny!).

Happy New Year! Wishing you a 2010 filled with more than just a pocketful of moxie!
